Direct Answer
If an electric reel slows down under load, do not blame the battery first. Check state of charge, cable length, connector tightness, corrosion, reel current demand and voltage drop at the reel while it is pulling.
Why Anglers Search This Problem
Forum discussions and battery guides show that sudden shutdowns and voltage sag under load are common search problems. The visible symptom may be at the reel, but the root cause can be cable resistance, loose connector contact or a weak battery.
Diagnostic Matrix
| Symptom | Likely cause | First check |
|—|—|—|
| Voltage normal at rest, drops under load | Resistance or weak pack | Measure while reel is pulling |
| Connector gets warm | Loose or dirty contact | Inspect locknut and terminals |
| Longer cable worsens power | Cable resistance | Shorten or upgrade cable |
| Works after recharge only briefly | Low capacity or aging | Compare runtime under same load |
RANON Handling Notes
RANON batteries use a locknut-secured connector and electrode cover. Keep the connector dry, align the electrode gap, tighten the locknut and cover the electrode after use. Do not modify the battery or charger.
FAQ
Q: Is voltage drop always a bad battery?
**A:** No. Cable length, connector resistance and loose terminals can also cause voltage drop under load.
Q: Why does the connector get warm?
**A:** A loose or corroded connection increases resistance and can create heat.
Q: Should I test voltage with no load only?
**A:** No. A battery can look normal at rest and sag when the reel is pulling current.
Q: Can I change the connector shape?
**A:** No. Keep the original locknut connector and electrode protection structure.
